For nearshore surveys and sampling, vessel support is provided by the R/V Scorpaena. A trailered, 25-feet-long, diesel powered vessel, able to cruise at 21 to 25 kn. Hydraulic A-frame and electric powered winches and davits allow rapid deployment and recovery of sampling equipment. Radar, color fathometer, GPS, and plotters provide station location and tracking. Cabin sink, enclosed head, cockpit shower, and 8 gallons of freshwater.
